As summer approaches, mosquito repellent products enter a consumption peak. Some businesses deliberately blur the boundary between cosmetics and mosquito repellent products, illegally claim mosquito repellent efficacy, mislead consumers, and endanger health. Consumers should note:
1. Mosquito repellent products are not cosmetics. According to the Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Regulation, cosmetics are daily chemical products applied to skin, hair, nails, lips, etc., for cleaning, protection, beautification, and modification. Mosquito repellency is not within the scope of cosmetic efficacy.
2. Cosmetics are prohibited from false efficacy claims. According to the Cosmetics Classification Rules and Catalogue, cosmetics cannot explicitly or implicitly indicate mosquito repellent effects. Products with such efficacy must comply with pesticide management regulations.
3. Correct selection and use. Mosquito repellent products differ from cosmetics in safety standards and usage scope. Consumers should check enterprise and product qualifications. For cosmetics, check for special cosmetic registration number or ordinary cosmetic filing number and production license number. For repellents, check for pesticide registration number and production license number. Beware of absolute or false claims like ‘pure plant’ or ‘pure natural’.
