The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States has released the findings of its 2022 asbestos sample testing of talc-containing cosmetics. In 2022, 50 samples from different brands such as Gucci and Givenchy were analyzed, and there was no asbestos found in any of the testing samples.
Asbestos and talc are both naturally occurring minerals that may be discovered adjacent to one another in the ground. However, asbestos is a proven carcinogen when breathed, unlike talc. Asbestos has the potential to contaminate talc, thus it is crucial to carefully choose talc mining areas and take precautions to thoroughly test the ore.
The FDA has been checking talc-containing cosmetics for asbestos contamination. The items were chosen based on a number of criteria, including the kind of talc-containing cosmetic product, price range, well-liked items on social media and in commercials, items targeted to children, and items for color. AMA Analytical Services, Inc. (AMA) tested the samples on behalf of the FDA. And Polarized light microscopy (PLM) and transmission electron microscopy were used to evaluate the samples (TEM).
Visit the FDA’s Talc website to see the findings of prior talc samplings. The FDA intends to provide the industry with draft recommendations for evaluating asbestos in talc-containing cosmetic items in the next year.
In the cosmetics business and its marketing approach, the phrase “cosmetic sets” is frequently used. It is also referred to as a beauty package, a cosmetic box, etc. Selling cosmetics in a single container or in a package with several different cosmetic goods is the fundamental concept.
However, in the regulatory realm, the definition of a “Cosmetic Set” varies somewhat based on the scenario and the product combination.
According to the NMPA in China, cosmetic sets are any of the following circumstances, with varying requirements for labeling.
1. Several Products must be used together in the set.
For example:
hair dye products are generally composed of two parts: hair dye and oxidant, which are called“I agent” and “II agent“.
the essential oils of many essential oil products can only be used after being diluted and blended with base oils, and the essential oils and base oils are combined into one product.
some frozen-dried powder products need a certain solvent to dissolve the powder before use, and the freeze-dried powder and solvent are combined into one product.
