Taiwan releases series of Ingredients usage control lists based on the New Cosmetic law

On May 30, 2019, Taiwan FDA released a series of ingredient usage control lists based on the new law of Cosmetic Hygiene and Safety Act which listed as follows:

  • List of Colorants in Cosmetic Products
  • List of Specific Purpose Ingredients in Cosmetic Products
  • List of Preservatives Allowed in Cosmetic Products
  • List of Microorganisms Limits in Cosmetic Products
  • List of Ingredients Restricted in Cosmetic Products
  • List of Ingredients Prohibited in Cosmetic Products
  • List of Colorants in Cosmetic Products

NMPA adds Alternative Testing Methods to Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015)

On 22nd Mar, 2019, NMPA adds five new alternative testing methods and 4 revised testing methods to Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015). The five new alternative testings will be allowed to be used in the New cosmetic ingredients registration process.

The 5 new testing methods:

  • Determination of Free Formaldehyde in Cosmetics
  • Short Time Exposure In Vitro Test Method (STE)
  • Skin Sensitization: Local Lymph Node Assay: DA (LLNA:DA)
  • Skin Sensitization: Local Lymph Node Assay: BrdU-ELISA (LLNA:BrdU-ELISA)
  • In Chemico Skin Sensitisation: Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay (DPRA)

The 4 revised testing methods:

  • Determination of Cantharidin and Chlormethine in Cosmetics,
  • Determination of 10 α-hydroxy acid in cosmetics,
  • Bacterial Reverse Mutation Assay
  • Teratogenicity Test.

From 1st Jan 2020, these testing methods will be available to the testing of cosmetics registration/filing and post-market surveillance.
